The Bottom Line: Overall, this is a great player string. I felt as though it offered more power than it did control, but a player 4.5 and above should have no problem taming the ball off the frame. If you currently use Luxilon and feel as though it is a bit too harsh on your arm, this could be a great string for you to try as it is noticeably softer than some other Big Banger and polyester strings. With Luxilon string being the preferred string of 60% of the ATP top 50 players and 60% of the top 50 WTA players, this is sure to attract the attention of many players around the globe. Although it is a difficult string to weave in a closed string pattern racquet, players will love the power and playability they get from this string. Keep in mind that most players will be bringing their racquets back to get restrung before the strings break as it is very difficult to break these. Grinding it out from the baseline: When playing from the baseline I got a lot of power and with extra brush on the ball, I got control as well. The ball really had a lot of pop coming off the racquet with ALU Power in the stringbed. As I sliced from the backhand side, the ball not only stayed lower with bite, it went deeper in the court. Flattening out ground strokes really made the ball move quickly, and it required less racquet-head speed on my end. When I went for a loopier ball with heavy topspin, the ball really kicked up with authority. Applying the pressure at net: ALU Power felt great at net when trying to add extra juice to a floating shot. It also handled bigger shots well, but required adjustment so the ball didn't get too jumpy on me. Low and slow volleys were no problem as the added power helped me to generate more action and pop when getting them back. Sweet Spot: The sweet spot was more forgiving than the original Big Banger string and other polyester strings. When hit right on in the center, the ball flew, felt great and had command on it. When hit off-center, you still got a little jolt in the arm, but certainly less severe than other Big Banger string I have played with in the past. Off-center shots also had less feel on the ball and sacrificed accuracy. Serving up aces and returning winners: This string provided some great power on my serves. I felt like I was hitting an ace every time I connected in the sweet spot. However, when I hit off-center, I did not get such great results in the box and often times my serve fell short in the net. I was able to generate high-kicking and heavy spin serves with the extra juice provided by the ALU Power. My return was very nice, again, when I connected in the sweet spot. There were times that I connected off-center and it set up a nice floater for my opponent. Durability: After the playtest period I did not notice any wear whatsoever in the stringbed. There was minimal movement and I felt that there was very little tension loss. *Dave Emkey, NTRP Rating 5.0 NOTE: International or P.O. Box delivery is not available.
